Science: Plant characteristics

Spanish: review what you have learned with practice games!

Materials We Will Need:

  • all listed school supplies (click here for preparation directions)
  • water bottle (plastic, with a lid) to stay at school all year

Notices for Parents:

  • Please make sure your student comes to school with ALL of the requested supplies, especially the art box, spirals, folder, binder, and dividers, as we will be setting up our organization system for the rest of the year during the first couple days of school.
  • 5th grade students may bring personal snacks, provided that they are HEALTHY, non-messy, and quiet to eat. Unacceptable snacks will be returned to the student's backpack; if a student consistently brings unhealthy snacks, the snack will be trashed instead of returned home, and a notation in the student's agenda will be made.   • Uniform Reminders: plain BLACK belts; PLAIN white or navy socks covering ankles; shorts & skorts/skirts must reach knees; girls: no dangly or hoop earrings, colored nail polish, or make-up; please wear shorts under skirts

August 26 - first day of school! dismissal at 11:00

August 27-29 - send a sack lunch each day!

August 29 - first all school mass

September 2 - hot lunch begins

September 6 - SHS Back to School picnic

September 10 - PTO meeting

Incoming 5th graders should be able to:

  • Look up a passage in the Bible when given the book, chapter number, and verse numbers
  • Have all basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts memorized
  • Know whole-number place values
  • Multiply and divide with 2-digit numbers
  • Add and subtract decimal numbers
  • Measure length to the nearest 1/8 inch and nearest millimeter (PRACTICE this!)
  • Read and write in cursive (both upper case and lower case letters) with correct letter formation
  • Read a map using the compass rose, legend, and scale
  • Write complete, gramatically correct sentences
  • Write stories and reports of at least 5 paragraphs
  • Look up words in a dictionary using the guidewords at the top of the page
  • Alphabetize words (often using letters beyond the first letter of the word)
  • Spell their complete legal name
  • Write their address as it should appear on an envelope
  • Use online search engines (such as OneKey) and key words
  • Type using correct "home row" keyboarding skills (Use English link for online keyboarding practice.)
