Expectations:
My expectations
of you are very simple: I expect you to do your personal best in all
assignments, to show respect for everyone and everything around, and be a good
model of Christian behavior in and out of school. In return, you may expect me
to show respect to you and to work hard to make meaningful assignments that will
help you succeed this year and beyond.

Classroom Discipline/Management:
Jesus has taught us
to love one another. With this in mind, I like to use the Love and Logic
approach in the classroom. I believe in giving students the responsibility of
monitoring their behavior and solving their own problems without creating
problems for anyone else. Unkind words or actions will not be tolerated. If
the student continues his/her behavior, there is seat that will be designated as
the THINK SEAT. At the Think Seat there will be a THINK SHEET that requires
students to create a plan for correction a mistake. If the Think Sheet comes
home, your signature is required and the sheet must be brought back the next
day. If needed, there is also a SAFE SEAT that is located in another
classroom. This will be used in cases where the student’s behavior is
disrupting the rest of the class. Always ask yourself. “What would Jesus do?”

Assignment Calendar:
Important dates, field trips, and Specialty Project due dates will be posted on the
Assign-A-Day calendar. Students will
still be expected to maintain a daily assignment book (agenda) for daily
assignments. You should
have a parent sign your agenda each day.

Weekly Folders:
Students will bring
home a folder every Friday with completed work and notes. Please be
sure to check the folders for notes from the school as well as the class!

Scheduling an Appointment:
If you
have any questions or concerns, please schedule an appointment to discuss them
with me. You may reach me through email, leave a voice mail, or send a
note with your child. Also, please remember to leave dates and times that
will work best for you whether it’s after school or during one of my planning
periods: Monday-Thursday 8:55-9:40, Friday 12:40-1:25.

Incentives:
I
don’t like to give candy as a reward. Instead, I like to hand out tickets.
Tickets can be given at any time the following is observed: good Christian
behavior, being helpful, being respectful, following directions, listening,
participating in class discussion, or just because. At the front of the room
there is a plastic container that you may put your ticket into after you have
put your name on it. Tickets will be drawn at random during the week. If your
ticket is drawn, you will be able to choose a prize out of the basket.
But, don't forget that your education and spiritual growth is its own reward.

Homework Policy:
I try to send very
little extra homework home, but there will be occasions when this is necessary.
The Specialty Project is one assignment that can almost always be done at home.
There will be Reading and Math homework nightly. Also, occasionally a Spelling
take-home task. Reading will consist of 20 minutes a night and Math 10
minutes. A Homework Log will need to be filled out and signed by the
parent/caregiver. Every Monday I expect homework logs to be turned in so that
they can be calculated. There will not be a grade for homework logs, but I will
give bonus points. The points can help a student, for instance, who is at a B+
to possibly move up to an A-.
It can only help,
not hurt!

Heading a Paper:
There is one correct heading that is expected on practically all papers. The
heading will be placed in the top margin all the way to the right. It will
include, in this order from top down, your name and number, the subject, the
date, the assignment and page number (when necessary). An example of the
heading is available on the website and is always hanging in the classroom.
