Welcome back to school! We hope all of you had a wonderful summer!
We are looking forward to another school year.
Folders
All papers sent home with your child will be placed in a pocket folder and
sent home in their book bags. Please check this nightly, especially on
Tuesdays and Thursdays, as these are the days your child will be receiving
homework. The folder needs to be returned each day. Homework is due
the following day unless noted differently.
Snack Day
Second Graders still seem to enjoy a snack each day. We are sending
home a snack calendar. Please check to see when it is your turn to send in
a nutritious snack. Examples are pretzels, crackers and cheese, fruit roll
ups, dry cereal, granola bars, etc. No drinks please. Let us know of
any food allergies your child may have. If your child does not like the
snack for the day, they may choose not to have one for the day. Any
extras will be used on a day a family has forgotten. If you are a family
that has forgotten, we ask that you send in as soon as possible, and then we
will use it on a day that someone else forgets.
Discipline Policy
The discipline policy we will be using this year is the letter chart.
The students will be receiving letters for inappropriate behavior. T for
talking, W for wasting time, H for homework not returned, etc. If they
receive three or more letters in one day, or five in one week, then Friday Free
Time will be taken away from them. At the end of the week we will be
sending home a Friday folder in which you will see how your child has behaved.
Please sign your name after the strip and return on Monday. As a whole
class, we also have "bubblicious behavior", which the students can earn a paper
gumball by behaving well as a class. When the students have reached their
goal of twenty five gumballs they will vote on something they would like to do,
i.e. extra recess, eat lunch in the classroom, bring a snack and watch a movie,
etc.
Estimation Activity
Each week we will be doing an estimation activity. We will have a jar
full of edible food in which the students will guess how many items are in the
jar. On Friday the student who estimates the closest gets to take the jar
full of goodies home, refill it with more goodies, and brings it back on Monday.
Please send in an envelope the correct answer.
