History

Sacred Heart Parish was founded as a mission in 1871. In May of 1900, Fr. Michael Simmer raised $700 to purchase grounds and a building in Bonner Springs, Kansas. In September of 1921 a new church was constructed and in 1955 Fr. Michael Moriarty organized a capital fund drive to build a parochial school. The new school was dedicated in September of 1958. On June 30, 1996 a fire destroyed the church. In October 1999, after much planning and debate the parish broke ground on the current facility at 21801 Johnson Drive in Shawnee. The doors were opened to students and staff on September 5, 2000.
