Nurse 4/19

Hello Sacred Heart Families!

The contagious viral and bacterial illnesses seem to be, for the most part, past us and now we have moved on into allergy season. If you know your child suffers from seasonal allergies and you haven't started medication, please do so at this time. And, if you have noticed that your child still has significant allergy symptoms with their current medication regimen, please talk to their pediatrician about adding another medication or changing medications. To help you remember daily allergy medications, (as I know it can be hard to get back into that habit since it typically isn't all year round) I would recommend setting the medication out on a counter in the kitchen/bathroom next to something that is used daily, such as a water bottle or toothbrush. I ask that you please do not bring a daily (24-hour acting) allergy medication into the school for me to give to your child, as that can easily get cumbersome, with the amount of students in our school who suffer from seasonal allergies.

Some non-pharmacological ways to combat allergy symptoms include: room air purifiers, air purifying plants, washing bed sheets often, changing home air filters more frequently, taking a daily shower in the evening, washing hands often and especially after being outside or touching a known allergen.

Thank you so much for your cooperation with this and please let me know if you have any questions or concerns,

Nurse Mary
