I want to move to Denmark! Why, you ask? Well, I recently read some statistics about where the happiest kids in the world live. You guessed it; Denmark! Who knew? Since empowering kids to find happiness is one of my biggest goals in life, I was super eager to discover the recipe for their success. One of their priorities was to educate kids to master their emotions; to think straight and self-regulate. Mrs. Rhodes, our fearless leader here at SHOJ, challenged staff to read an incredible book called Thrivers by Michele Borba, Ed.D. According to research mentioned in this book, kids who are strong in self-control tend to manage stress and regulate unhealthy emotions better than those who struggle with self-control. Kids who can delay gratification can stretch their focusing capabilities and increase mental and physical strength. They even go as far as to say that self-control is a better predictor of academic success than IQ or SAT scores and twice as crucial as intelligence in predicting academic achievement. Wow!! This is good to know. If you’re like me and want to learn more, click on the link below to discover 12 simple ways to help empower our kids to gain self-control.
