Rooted in Christ

Welcome to the school year. It is a joy to get started but a startling reminder how our stamina has changed with summer schedules! In a few weeks, we will have these new routines down! As we use our new App/Website system, the way we do newsletters is going to change. The news article will be first and then there will be bullet points on upcoming events and where to find more information at the end.  I apologize, this first newsletter will be a little lengthy!

We have a great staff. We are blessed to have so many talented teachers, support people, and paras return! They are such a blessing. A few faces will take on some new roles:  Lisa Wohletz will be a para in classrooms this year.  Mrs. Hess is supporting our resource team in the middle school, not teaching classes this year. Mrs. Kissell will be helping out the resource team as needed in all grade levels. Please welcome Lindsay Billquist to the resource team working in grades 2-5 mostly. We look forward to in person introductions at Back to School night on Aug. 25, starting in the church at 6:30.

The lunch program is under way.  We can accept applications for free or reduced lunch at any time. If you qualify, the reduced price will happen immediately when the application is complete. The form to apply is under the documents tab called 2023 Household Application Pack. Students will order lunch each morning. Please call by 9 to order if they are arriving late. Mrs. Plunkett is in charge of the program again.

A few drop off/dismissal reminders.  Middle school students can walk through the building if you drop off on the Jo Dr side. If they want to walk through the courtyard, please take the circle loop by the Adoration Chapel doors – the traffic has backed up a couple times onto Jo Dr, so we can’t afford to have two stops for cars or times when we are not unloading. We “close” the lots for pick up on normal school days for cars to enter about 3:19 and about 11:25 on half days. Please park all facing the same direction and follow the pattern when it is time to exit. These procedures ensure that kids are safe. Please see the explanation sheet on the website under parents. Please share this with anyone who helps you with pick up.

The CPS Rosary Ministry has great plans for this year.  Please support their important mission by signing up to lead the Rosary before an all school Mass, by taking the school Rosary home to pray it with your family for all those at SHOJ, or some of the future events. You can find their information on the website by clicking on CPS under the Parents button.

The Parish Ministry Schedule is now available. One of the many great activities for this fall is Hot Topics and the Gospel. More information in the weekly Friday flock note email from the parish.  If you are not getting them register at SHOJ.org.
