The Rhodes Ahead

Hello Sacred Heart families – It was so good to see so many of you at Back to School Night. It is so beautiful to see the good that happens when people work together. We are blessed by our Pastor and everyone who works for the parish – but we are most blest when we work together. What a great end to the first week, Father blessing the classrooms Friday morning and an all school assembly in the afternoon. We are excited about the class of 2023 leading us all in virtue and the fun we will have with them.

A short summary from last night: Here are some numbers about SHOJ in the 2022-23 school year. Current enrollment is 397 about the same as last year, 28 new students in 1-8, 27 new families, and 31 kindergarteners.  This makes us a pretty full and happy school.  I am of course going to continue to search for ways to improve our school.  Please watch for surveys that give you a chance to share your opinions and dreams for SHOJ school.

We are in the second year of our Cognia accreditation cycle which focuses on a continuous cycle of improvement. Our spring state assessments averaged about 20 points above the state’s in reading and math across grade levels 3-8 and 3 points higher than other Catholic Schools in our Archdiocese in math and 5.7 in reading. As a school, we are setting goals to continue to increase our performance for all students at all levels.

Catholic Education is unique because before the goals of high achievement or worldly success, we know that the hope of eternal life in heaven is most important.  As we focus our theme Rooted in Christ with growth in the virtues of faith, hope, love, prudence, justice, temperance and fortitude, we can overcome and be successful as God has planned for each of us. Which is why as partners with you in the education of your children, I want you each to have the same book the teachers are doing a book study on this school year.

I have order more of the books, Made This Way, for each family. I will get them to those who signed up as soon as possible. Please let me know if you need one.
