Rooted in Christ

Hello Sacred Heart Families,

First, a quick update on illnesses. Today (Friday) we down to 14 students out sick.  Thanks for your help and care to get the numbers trending down from earlier in the week. It’s that time of year when we are busy, but we appreciate the focus on healthy habits.

The prayer book we use with the children, Children’s Daily Prayer, has a great description about Halloween.  Here it is: “The word hallow is another word for a saint, a holy person. So, the night before All Saint’s Day is called All Hallows’ Eve or Halloween. That night some of the rules of life change a bit. Instead of ordinary clothes, we wear costumes. We can play the part of saints or heroes or people with special talents. We can ask neighbors for treats. We also change the rules of fear. We laugh at things that scare us – spooks, skeletons, and slimy things that go boo! They cannot separate us from Jesus and the joy of his Resurrection.”  Here is a prayer they suggest before eating those treats:

God of all harvests and all happiness, we thank you for the festival of All Saints, for saints to befriend us and teach us the way of the Gospel, for costumes and celebrations, for families who love us and make us safe. Keep our hearts always open to those who need us. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Happy Halloween.

Rooted in Christ,

Kathy
