Rooted in Christ

Happy New Year! I hope the year is off to a great start.  As I reflect on the blessings of the year, there are so many things that I am blessed because of SHOJ! I hope that you feel the same.

As we plan for the busy third quarter, one of the big celebrations we plan is Catholic Schools Week. This year it is from Jan. 29 - Feb. 3. As always, we begin with Mass and thanking our parish for their support. We love to have as many families present at 11:00 am Mass with students in uniforms to show our appreciation and help with donuts at all Masses. If your family is willing to help with any of the roles at Mass, please email me.

The idea of Catholic Schools Week is to celebrate being educated in academics while learning and living our faith. The events of the week have different focuses that we celebrate with fun dress/events during the week. A favorite of the students in the Cardinal Carnival. Last year, due to the snow day, we discovered that this is best on the Friday, the half day of school. This event is planned by the 8th graders and supported by all families, as the money supports our Serving Catholic Charities before spring break. Please note the talent show will also be held on the same day, Friday, March 10.

This is also a great time to share with neighbors and friends what you love about SHOJ and help spread the word to others. We love having testimonials from parents, either written or recorded, to share on our social media – just email either form to kathy.rhodes@shoj.org. Enrollment will begin about that time. We will again just roll all students into the next grade and rely on you to let us know if you have students, you are adding or if your family will be moving. More information coming soon on enrollment.

We have started nominating for Kindest Kansas Citian. Students can get forms from Mrs. Schierts.

Let's make 2023 the best yet at SHOJ.

Rooted in Christ,

Kathy Rhodes
