Family Time Fifth grade teachers Mrs. Amie Pendergast and Mr. Craig Whalen are proud of their Faith Family leaders. The pictures capture a confident crew of young men and women who shared with their K-4 families a little about Sacred Heart's Unbound sponsored friends and taught them the five finger prayer. So beautiful to see these young souls growing in faith and virtue together.

Ahhhh... Ms. Kim... an SHOJ treasure. Don't know her? Our students have the same reaction when she walks in the room that kids in the 60s did when John, Paul, George, and Ringo were spotted. (I'll wait if you need to Google the reference). Ms. Kim brings Friday energy to every day. We are blessed to have her functioning in so many capacities in the classroom and one on one with students. She has a Master of Science in Speech Language Pathology, and a PhD in servant leadership. Her heart for Jesus and love of her faith draw us in close to her too. Kids are just more transparent about their love. BIG HUGS, Ms. Kim!

Teacher's Favorite Phrase on Friday: "The lounge has been stocked!" Thank you to our Parent Volunteer Organization (PVO-formerly CPS) for speaking the love language of the staff: Caffeine and snacks. Thank you to ALL PARENTS for donating during enrollment so that these awesome women could carry out this aspect of the PVO ministry. What a gift!

Dads pursuing holiness? Yeah. We got 'em. I feel like I am overusing the phrase "first time ever." But, for the first time ever, we hosted an all-Cardinal dads' reception after All School Mass. A chance to be in community, and a chance for some of our young male students to see the witness of authentically good men who, by showing up, witness to them that pursuing holiness is what men do. And then God does what He does best. You can't make this stuff up...a little story. Before the reception, I had asked a dad who has a 3rd grader and a 1st grader to share his "why?" about All School Mass. I know he works full-time, but I see him at every All-School Mass. I won't share his story with you, but it is pretty convincing. I had asked his 3rd grade son to help serve coffee and donuts at the reception. As a byproduct of his service, he would hear his dad speak. At the end of the reception, I ushered this awesome group of young Cardinal men back to class. We paused, and I asked them the same question I ask my much older middle school students after my Service elective class. In the Service elective, students serve our community as a part of their school day. The question I posed to the group of young men was, "Where did you see God in your service today?" The 3rd-grade student spoke up right away. He said, "I saw God at work when I heard my dad talk at the reception." We want to give our kids so many good things. Being so transparent in our love for God that when they see us, they see Him? Zoinks! Nothing better. Dads-Thanks for showing up.

Kids these days...am I right? Out when it's dark (6:30 AM). Hanging with strangers (other Daily Mass goers). Being influenced by others (to join them at First Friday devotion to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, go to Adoration and Reconciliation). Eating junk food (technically that's true-donuts). What's a parent to do? Um...er...uh. Be inspired! Thanks be to God for the call to holiness through His Most Sacred Heart. Special thanks to 8th graders Mia, Kendall, and Landon for showing up @ 6:20 AM to greet and host. That’s dedication!!!

This morning's SMART family presentation was, as one parent told us afterward, "Amazing." In October, SMART families will make age-appropriate interactive presentations to our students about their developing brain and how technology impacts it. It is neuroscience presented in a meaningful way to all of our audiences K-8.
Parents, We do not want you to miss this initial phase of the SMART Family program. Please put the September 24th date on your calendar. You won't regret it. Join us for a parent focused powerful presentation. Check your email for the RSVP link.

Our hearts were full as a few of our favorite Forever Cardinals dropped by today. Mr. Chapman and our dear Stella visited school after celebrating the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass for their beloved Cassandra. The smiles tell the good news that our friends are doing well. Forever in our hearts and prayers. 💕🙏💕

“The day of the Nativity of the Mother of God is a day of universal joy because through the Mother of God, the entire human race was renewed, and the sorrow of the first mother, Eve, was transformed into joy.” Saint John Damascene HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO OUR BLESSED MOTHER! Mrs. Russell's 2nd grade class and Father Joseph celebrated Mary's birthday by making her flowers. Oh, the joy of our Mother when her children celebrate her in such a lovely way.
