This week's virtue: Humility- thinking of others before yourself.
Meghan O'Dowd, Middle School Social Studies teacher, doesn't know why we asked her to take this picture. She is too humble to acknowledge her humility.
As we approach Catholic Schools Week (CSW), Mrs. O'Dowd is spending a great deal of her free time - as she has year after year- making sure that CSW Cardinal Carnival offers students K-8 a memorable day of community. She is a person who thinks first of others- their happiness, their peace, their joy-before thinking of herself.
We are grateful to have Mrs. O'Dowd to look out for our students amid the challenging middle school years. What a blessing!

Just people hangin' out talkin' about life and stuff.
No phones except the one that took the picture of the moms and the dads and the Principal and the Pastor all enjoying coffee and cinnamon rolls after All School Mass.
In the simplicity of moments like these, He reveals Himself. 💓 SHOJ School!

Due to icy road conditions, there will be no school Monday, Jan. 22nd. Please stay safe!

The right to life is the first human right. - Pope Francis.
Consider a road-trip to Topeka on Wednesday 1/24 to rally for life.

The true way to advance in holy virtues is to persevere in a holy cheerfulness.- Saint Phillip Neri
Attitude check: When was the last time you were caught exuding this much joy while working? Mrs. Boone, pictured here with the Happy Hearts Working Associates, is grateful for the multiplication of joy that is created when these gentleman suit up for work in the lunchroom. On the frigid days of winter, they radiate God's love, joy
and warmth to all SHOJ staff and students.

Love your children. In them, you can see baby Jesus. Pray for them a lot, and every day put them under Holy Mary’s protection.
St. Gianna Molla
Check out these sweet current and future Cardinals. They are SHOJ Staff kiddos who are sharing a snow day with mom.
Join us in praying for those without shelter:
God of all seasons,
the winter months are hard for those who cannot escape the cold.
I cannot clothe the world,
but I can offer this prayer to those who are without four walls
to protect them from the season.
May this prayer find those who struggle to fight the cold,
that they may feel the warmth of your love.
Jesus wrapped his arms around those who struggled.
Let me do my best to follow that example.
Amen

Mrs. Wright's Kindergarteners also punched their ticket for the Polar Express. All aboard for Christmas joy!

You need to look no further than these adorable Kindergarten faces from Mrs. Rule's class to see the beauty of the Advent Season as they (try to) patiently await the coming of the King.

"Nothing is so strong as gentleness - nothing so loving and gentle as strength.”- St. Frances DeSales
Last week, Cali (4 legs, pictured in front locking eyes with the camera) stopped by one our 1st Grade Classrooms. Cali’s “dad”, David Caton of KC Elite Dog Training, has taught Cali lots of tricks. Our favorite trick captured in this picture is simultaneously bringing joy and peace to the hearts of these sweet 1st grade souls.

“Deo Gratias”: Thanks be to God.
The Catholic Foundation of Northeast Kansas (CFNEK) is an Archdiocesan group that exists to gather financial support for parishes and organizations to carry out the mission of the Church.
Sacred Heart School was blessed to be a recipient of a CFNEK grant that allowed us to host our “Thankful Thursday” event November 9th. This event celebrated the domestic church with a family meal, prayer time, and games. Prizes for the games were religious icons to be displayed and shared in the homes of our school families as a reminder of our Catholic faith.
As a recipient of a grant, we were invited to the annual Deo Gratias dinner. We were excited to see that Mr. and Mrs. John and Claudia Caton, in-laws of Mrs. Caton, SHOJ 4th Grade teacher, (family picture here) were the 2023 Deo Gratias distinguished family honorees.
Grateful to the Catholic Foundation of Northeast Kansas and the generous donors for investing in the Sacred Heart community.
